I structure my classes progressively — beginning with Sarali Varisai, Janta Varisai, Alankarams, and gradually moving to Geethams, Swarajatis, Varnams, and Kritis of revered composers like Tyagaraja, Muthuswami Dikshitar, and Syama Sastri. I ensure students understand not just the notation but also the meaning, pronunciation (sahitya shuddham), and emotional depth of each composition. Special emphasis is given to: Voice culture exercises to improve pitch stability and vocal strength Tala discipline and rhythmic accuracy Manodharma sangeetam Stage confidence and performance preparation I adapt my teaching style according to the student’s age and learning pace — whether it is young beginners, teenagers preparing for stage performances, or adults pursuing music as a passion. I also prepare students for small concerts, devotional events, and cultural programs, helping them develop confidence and presentation skills. Beyond technical training, I strongly believe vocal music is a spiritual and emotional journey. I encourage students to connect with the lyrics, understand the devotional context, and sing with sincerity and bhakti, not just technical perfection. My goal as a Vocal Music teacher is not only to train good singers but to nurture disciplined, confident, and expressive musicians who respect tradition while developing their own musical identity.
