There are 3 ways of reading. One way is read passage and read questions, second read questions and then read passage, third is skimming and scanning. Choose whichever suits you best. Having said that, the best way to not getting distracted while reading is to have an open mind and have aabsolute curiosity to know what the author has to say. Curiosity to know to learn from the passage is the key. Speed is important too.

Organisations have moved away from being vertically hierarchical to being horizontally structured. Communication now happens by email, phone and in teleconferences and conferences that have a personal touch, unlike in letters, circulars and memos of those days. Also, nowadays communication moves across as feedback, suggestions, innovative ideas, etc. instead of flowing top down. The jobs at all levels have changed from being task oriented to performance excellence and relationship oriented, wherein employees wish to be treated as emotional beings rather than mere workers. Performance excellence depends on continuous, real-time feedback and relationship building depends on a cordial understanding between all internal and external stakeholders. Also, with the globalisation, people from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds are thrown together at the workplace. Considering all these, it's obvious, without effective communication skills, it will be difficult to build a cohesive workplace where operations happen seamlessly and smoothly.
