The main reason was Bengal, with a population of 78 million, had become too big to be administered, which was the real intent behind the partition of Bengal.
The British desire was to weaken Bengal because it was the Nerve centre of Indian Nationalism by the "Divide and Rule"( between Hindu and Muslim) policy bought by Lord Curzon.
