Is R neccessary to learn for visualization if same can be done through Tableau in less time?

Not necessarily, tableau has got better visualization than that of R. In Tableau, you just have to drag and drop the components which is pretty easy unlike R where you have to write code to get the visual. Tableau can be used easily by one who doesn't have coding background.

Tableau comes with two main commercial product lines – Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server. Tableau has got very good Visualisation, MSBI is quickly catching up to Tableau but will require another year or so.
