Start with the NCERT books; these books give you the basics of the different GS subjects. Read them thoroughly; while reading underline the important points. Always practice the previous year’s question papers along with studies. Do not wait till you cover your syllabus; previous year’s questions practice should go hand in hand with daily studies. Read newspapers daily to update yourself with current affairs. Visit current affairs site on internet to read news items in prepared notes form. You can focus on the important areas of the syllabus for the IAS 2012 once the syllabus is published in the IAS 2012 notification.
