Deepanwita Roy is an independent contemporary movement artist and practitioner, working as a dancer, performer, choreographer and teacher. Last two years, she has been extensively exploring movements, researching and experimenting her ideas, working and collaborating with Choreographers and multi-disciplinary artists. Her choreographed piece “LAYERS” received a great response from her mentors and fellow artists.
Deepanwita worked and trained with many national and international- choreographers, teachers and artists. She was a former company dancer and Scholarship student in Ground Break dance company. In September,2018 she did a one-month Professional Choreography Laboratory course, she was a scholarship student in Fluid program-Shoonya and a diploma student in Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts and Mixed Media (2017-2018). Apart from that, she is trained in kalaripayattu and yoga. She performed in many prestigious festivals such as Serendipity Arts Festival, Goa; Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, Mumbai; Soorya Festival, Thiruvananthapuram etc to name few. Being a fitness enthusiast, she worked as a Zumba instructor and worked in cure.fit (cult.fit) as a dance fitness instructor-2019.
Recently Deepanwita is working in a research-based production “Evening Prayer” Of Xproarts dance company with choreograpgher Sudesh Adhana and its 1st premier was at Attakkalari, Bangalore April, 2021.
Alongside Deepanwita is now focusing on making and developing her own works, collaborating and community building. She believes in continuous learning and sharing and takes all opportunity to keep her knowledge fresh and flowing. She still training in Kathak. Academically she has a B.E degree in biotechnology. Her scientific reasoning is often reflected in her works, which many a time talks about environmental preservation, sustainability, organic use of body, mind and properties etc.
