The bond formed by sharing the outermost electrons known as a covalent bond. In carbon, the electronic configuration (He)2s2, 2p2. So the four outer electrons cannot be lost, or they cannot gain 4 electrons to attain noble gas configuration because it needs more energy to put or remove electrons. So the carbon shares the electrons with other atoms and forms a covalent bond.
